Bieber Fever

Okay I used to hate on young mister Bieber hard - but since his Christmas debut he has melted my heart a little. I literally just saw him perform on the X Factor and he was yet again so adorable and christmasy and he sang for a moment with my X Factor favorite Drew. So yes Justin Bieber has done the impossible and forced his way into my life.... Yes. My name is Caitie Collins and I have Bieber Fever. Sorry I'm not Sorry.

90's Flash Back

To stay productive at work I, like many of my friends, jam out to Pandora all day long. My co-workers and I always are shouting 'OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS SONG' and blasting for all to hear etc. etc. you get the picture (so productive I know don't hate). Lately to keep within the Christmas spirit I've had the Mariah Carey Holiday station on (again haters gonna hate) and Jessica Simpson's Christmas album starting playing. This is clearly where I turned to my co-worker and went omg J.Simp I forgot she existed I used to LOVE her - this is where my colleague appropriately said ME TO! From there we obvi went on YouTube to go through all the pop princesses hits i.e. Irresistible, With You, Sweetest Sin - yeah bet you forgot about that right!

The natural chain of progression moved us right along into the Spice Girl genre - WannaBe, 2 Become 1 - yup we went there! Basically it turned into a 90's girly girl jamout session and it was incredible. Here's a little taste of our 90's collection:

Kardashian Flashback

The Kardashian Family is my guilty pleasure. I watch all of the shows - Keeping up with the Kardashians, Khloe & Lamar (aka my fav.)  and Kim and Kourtney Take New York. I love them and I don't care who knows it. I know they're over the top and ridiculous and no one really wants to like them but I can't help it.

Any way while I was exploring twitter this morning I came across this little diddy. The leader of the Kardashian Klan - Kris Jenner - made a music video in honor of her 30th video. I'm sorry I love you  Kris even though you're nosy and crazy but what were you thinking! It gave me a good chuckle though on this hump day before Christmas vaca - Hope it gives you one too!!!

Christmas in New York

I took the day off of work today to finish up my holiday shopping and get into the Christmas spirit. Sometimes I can't decide if I hate Christmas in New York or if I love it. The crowds and ridiculous tourists can kind of suck the life out of you after a while, but today was the perfect Christmas in New York City day...

It started out at the Columbus Circle holiday shops where I picked up some last minute gifts for friends/family.

Then I decided to walk down Fifth Avenue to see how some of the stores decorated for the holiday season...

Fendi was my FAVORITE

Tiffany's Windows <3

Bloomingdales
As I walked down Fifth Ave I ended obviously at the tree in Rockefeller Center :)

Overall it was such a great day! Now time to make some delicious chili because really what's better when it's cold out!

Most Anticipated Albums of 2012

I followAlternative Press pretty closely when it comes to music. They have great write-ups on new bands and are always uploading music for fans to download as an album sneak preview. The other day they released a play list that included singles off of the most anticipated albums of 2012 - and I like what I'm hearing. They play list includes:
  • All American Rejects
  • Anthony Green
  • Asking Alexandria
  • Bring Me the Horizon
  • Gaslight Anthem
  • I See Stars
  • LetLive
  • Miss May I
  • Pierce the Veil
  • The Ready Set
  • Sharks
  • Title Fight
  • Whitechapel
With such an amazing list of artists I knew that 2012 was going to be full of great albums. My favorites off the list aka the albums I'm most pumped about are: The Gaslight Anthem - their song The Naveslink Bank holds true to this band's reputation. It's an amazing song and I cannot wait to hear what the rest of the album is going to sound like - it will be their first one with Mercury Records.

Another song that was great was Hollywood Dream by The Ready Set. I was never big into this band but I think 2012 is going to prove to be a pretty great year for them! Sweet Harness  by the Sharks was also a great listen. I wish I could share the whole play list with you guys but here is a taste...

The Navesink Bank - Gaslight Anthem

Someday's Gone - All American Rejects

Get Yours While You Can - Anthony Green by Caitlin Collins 1

Walkmen & Lousiana Perfect Combo

A fun fact about myself - While I am from NJ now living in NYC (and really a New Yorker at heart) I have an obsession with Louisiana in particularly New Orleans<3. I went there 2 years ago with my best friend and was completely captivated by it. While listening to Pandora at work today The Walkmen's song Louisiana came on and I forgot how great it is! It made me start planning my next visit to the great state of Marti Gras and True Blood! Check it...

Volunteer Time

So today my colleagues and I volunteered with Volunteers of America in NYC, wrapping a bizzilion gifts - which were donated over the past few weeks - for children staying in shelters this Christmas season.

While I don't like to brag about how awful wonderful my gift wrapping abilities are I will brag about how much fun we had. It was such a great day and it made me want to volunteer more often with different programs throughout the city. SO here I am asking you - Any suggestions? Tis the season.... let me leave you with a little reminder about what the season is about.

Fun. the band

So I'm becoming a little obsessed with the new band Fun. yup that's right Fun. I don't know why, I can't explain it but when I hear their music I get happy.

Nate Rues of the Format formed this band which calls it's home New York City (another part of them that makes me happy). Ruess left his native Arizona after the Format broke up and headed to NYC to grow his craft - Here is where FUN. was formed with Andrew Dost (of Anathallo) and Jack Antonoff (of Steel Train).
what cuties
Moving right along they recorded an album titled, Aim and Ignite in 2009 and from this point on they've been a breakout band gathering a strong following along the way. In 2010 they toured with Jack's Mannequin and later that year they toured with Paramore. Most recently they've been out on the Campus Conciseness Tour with Janelle Monae. They will be heading out on another tour for the first half of 2012 - unfortunately no NYC dates were scheduled boo, but hey what can I do.

Their music is awesome Ruess definitely kept his West Coast roots/feel with his music. The jam band, indie rock feel is all over their tracks. They are definitely a youngsters band with their new generational-esque song titled - We Are Young.  Take a listen and I hope you fall in love with them too!!! Also check out the Acoustic version too (right here) it's amazeballs.

Trent Reznor You Are Amazing

Nine Inch Nails front man/founder/leader etc., Trent Reznor, is so much more than any thing relating to or concerning the band. Don't get me wrong Nine Inch Nails is definitely where Reznor made, and continues to make a name for himself  but outside of that he is also a multi-instrumental, composer, producer.... MUSICAL GENIUS.

One of his most recent achievements comes from his collaboration with Atticus Ross on the Social Network soundtrack. For this effort Reznor and Ross received both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for best Original Score. Reznor himself described the soundtrack like so...

"Musically, this all came out of our secret laboratory - electronic in basis, but mostly organic sounding. Lots of experiments and emphasis on sound fraying around the edges while focusing on the proper emotional tone for the various scenes."
If you're wondering what he means then you better go take a listen. Music makes a film, it sets the emotional tones and takes you on a journey through the highs, lows and emotional climaxes of each character. The Social Network soundtrack goes above and beyond what a soundtrack is meant to do. It is an amazing collection of musical story telling. Without this soundtrack the tone of the film would have been completely altered.

And now the Reznor/Ross duo is set to achieve this feat again on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo soundtrack. First of all let me say I am a huge fan of this series, I've read all of the books and am highly anticipating the release of the film. To now find out that Reznor has his hand in the soundtrack - well lets just say I don't think anything could have made me more excited! They have recently leaked a preview of what we can expect the soundtrack to be like and you can download a sampler right here:

Or take a listen to their cover of Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song here:

Gaga Strikes Again - New Music Vid

So Lady Gaga - love her/hate her whatever you wish but you can't deny she's somewhat of a creative genius. Do I always understand her creative ways - absolutely not - do I watch every move she makes anyway - you betcha. Her newest video - Marry the Night - is a 13 minute short film basically that makes no sense, but I happened to enjoy it any way and here's why:
  • I love point shoes
  • I love dance videos (yes any kind of dance video they are the BEST kinds)
  • I appreciate that she kind of admits that she's kind of a lunatic/may or may not need to be in a psych ward some days
You should probably just check it out for yourself:

Get to Know - The Pretty Reckless

So I meant to mention this in yesterday's, Victoria Secret Fashion Show entry, but it slipped my mind until this song came blaring out of my iPod headphones while at the gym yesterday.

The song that kicked off the glitterati runway show for Ms. Victoria Tuesday night was Make Me Wanna Die by The Pretty Reckless. Now I've been listening to this band for over a year now and they surprisingly kick ass. I say surprisingly because the lead singer happens to be 16-year-old Taylor Momson. Yes that is correct: Momson from Gossip Girl, as well as the Grinch that Stole Christmas & the lead singer of this edgy new wave rock band are one in the same.

Momsen is in fact a very musically talented individual. She takes her musical inspiration from the White Stripes and The Beatles, and she along with producer Ben Philips wrote every song on The Pretty Reckless debut album - Light Me Up. Momsen says that Light Me Up is written about her life and her experiences, which is a little intense for a 16-year-old if you ask me. Many of the album's records talk about drugs, sex, heartbreak and so on which - I'm sorry I'm 24 and I don't recall relating to much of that at 16. But this is neither here nor there - the album as I said is pretty kick ass.

When the band first started performing live they recieved a lot of flack for the way Momsen was dressed and acting. Being that she is EXTREMELY UNDERAGE and performing in lingerie, leather and heavy eyeliner didn't really sit well with moms and dads across America, but hey let her do her thang is all I can say. Currently the band is touring Australia with no USA dates scheduled anytime soon. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't check them out though. She and her bandmates are definitely worth the listen - especially if your a girl dealing with some idiot boy or you need to get in a good workout.

Victoria Secret Fashion Show - Favorite Night of the YEAR

Last night was the Victoria Secret Fashion Show on CBS, and just like every year it was EFFING FANTASTIC. My best friend Katie and I live for this show each and every year. Back in college we would make a night out of it but without the snacks because its incredibly difficult to snack while you're watching perfect bodies strut down the runway in their underwear while you sigh wishing it was you. ANY WAY now that we're separated by a few miles (I'm in NYC and she's up in CT) we continue the tradition via iChat every year! (yeah we're nerds go ahead and hate). Our friend Ali used to get in on the action, but since leaving us for sunny Los Angeles (sad face) the time difference makes it difficult but I'll definitely be chatting her up later today to see how she LOVED IT.

Katie and I post college - we still got it.
But back to the show... it was incredible as always - I am always amazed with the concepts that the designers come up with and of course I'm floored by the models that I still hope to be one day because who doesn't want to be an angel (yes I know time is ticking).

Cutie pie Candice Swanepole opened up the show, and this blond bombshell definitely set the tone. Miranda Kerr, aka Mrs. Orlando Bloom, followed shortly behind Candice. Miranda recently had a baby and you would NEVER KNOW IT. Her body was back and better than ever, and her adorable equally hot hubby watched her strut her stuff with such pride - it was precious. Of course the face of the Pink line - Erin Heatherton - showed off her stuff as well along with Alessandra Ambrosio.

Miranda Kerr is Amazeeeee-ing

While I love all of the models don't get me wrong, and those four names are definitely the stars of the Angels lets not forget about the fifth and most amazing, needless to say -  ADRIANA LIMA IS MY GIRL.

My. Home. Girl. Adriana Lima.
I'm sorry but no one out there can top this girl she's so fierce I can't even stand it. I think she's definitely the one that has replaced Giselle as the Face of Victoria Secret. HOW COULD SHE NOT?!

Some other highlights from the show include:

Kanye West was supposed to perform back in 2007 but sadly his mother passed away and he needed to cancel so he last night he chose to perform Stronger which was what was scheduled for 2007. He rocked it out on the glitterati runway - and he also could not help but stare down a few of the models as well (but really I can't even blame here I would too).

Oh Kanye you devil you.

Maroon 5 also rocked out the stage, and while we all know my minor obsession with Adam Levine and his Hotness, it broke my heart a little. As we all know - and if you don't let me update you - Levine's girlfriend is OF COURSE, Victoria Secret Model - Anne Vyalitsyna. I must admit they are a hot/fierce couple and I mean really am I surprised he dates an Angel no, but am I sad yes...

Ugh to watch true love.

The models took a break from their heels to watch the Jay Z and Kanye West performance. That's right they stopped the show for this duo - as they should have - it was fab to say the least.

Brotherly Love.

Nikki Minaj closed the show during the Pink portion of the show. All the models and Nikki were rocking some neon colors and fun fun fun tutus and so on. However, I did notice that someone in the editing room screwed up royally. I guess they must have tapped a practice run of the show as well as in front of an audience because in ONE PORTION Nikki is rocking some fierce heels and through out the rest she's rocking some Silver Nike's. Caught ya.

Nikki is a Nugget

Well that's the wrap up of my Vikki Secret night with my bestie, until 2012! What did you think of the show what was your favorite part?!

Lana Del Rey Announces First Album

So remember the Lana Del Rey post from a few months back... well FINALLY the world has caught on and she will be releasing her debut album. The anticipated release date is January 23rd, and will be titled Born 2 Die, which coincidently is her next single. BASICALLY I cannot wait!

Thanksgiving Spotlight - Sorry X-Mas its Not Your Turn Yet

Welcome back! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Weekend! I know that it's Monday and supposedly I'm supposed to start paying attention to Christmas and all now that t-day has come and gone, but I'm just not ready to let go of Turkey-Day yet. Mainly because I feel like this holiday always gets overlooked... like WTF why are Christmas movies/songs playing all day on Thanksgiving?! It can't even get its own day to itself ya know. So I thought I would take today to continue being thankful... join me if you wish.

While I am of course thankful for my friends and family, because well they are the best, there are a few other silly things I am thankful for. Yes I appreciate silly things, because they keep you smiling even if you don't feel like it so yes, I think you should appreciate silly things as well.

That being said, I'm Thankful for...
  • Florence and the Machine's Talent - I'm sorry but she covered a Drake song, well. Come on smile now.

  • Lady GaGa and Sir Elton John - First off I dont know if you know this but I LOVE ELTON JOHN, secondly Lady GaGa, while a bit strange, is super fierce as well, and they are teaming up for a duet or two on Lady GaGa's next album. Let us give Music Thanks. (p.s. did you check out her turkey day special, she's so talented it's ridiculous)
Stolen from NJ Underground
  • UConn Ending Rutgers' Hope of Winning the Big East Championship - yeah sorry I'm not sorry. So another fact you might not know but I attended UConn, which in my opinion is the best school EVER. This past weekend they played Rutgers in football and Rutgers needed the win to have any hope of clinching the Big East Title. UConn stepped up and crushed them though. I'm from NJ so I'm sorry but I enjoy winning against a school where I know a lot of people that attended - sue me.
Rutgers vs. Uconn

That's just a few little thangs for you... what were you/are you thankful for?

Demi - Who Knew?

Demi Lovato is so random. First off I must admit I don't listen to her music, I am seriously guilty of pre-judging because she is a Disney star. However I must admit my mind is slowly changing. A while back I found this little diddy:

I had NO IDEA this girl could sing, like actually for serious amazing talent sing. Not only can she sing but she has crazy talent with making a song her own, which so many people are unable to do today.

So thank god the Jonas Bros didn't break this girl (you know the story don't act like you don't). I might have to support her from here on out - I hear sky scrapper is climbing the charts so I'll have to give it a listen. Oh and snap I hear that Tyler the Creator is a fan of hers? Honestly where have I been? Oh and I love her style. Check it.

Bruce Springsteen Announces 2012 World Tour

While out last night celebrating my friend Lauren's recent engagement (yey :)!) we stumbled upon the fact that the other love of her life/THE love of my life is going on tour in 2012. That's right boys and girls Bruce Springsteen & the E-Street Band will be announcing their 2012 World Tour dates this week.

Stud. End Of Story.

If you're not excited well I guess you don't believe in fun also I assume we probably aren't friends. I'll leave you with my favorite Bruce song to pump you up!

I Get By with a Little Help From My Friends

So I know I have been SUPER MIA and I promised I would be making a blog come-back this past week, but due to some unforeseen circumstances I have not been near a computer since this past Wednesday.

With that being said this past week has been a tough/emotional one for me, but it has definitely made me realize I have the best friends in the whole entire world. I definitely would have been lost without them, and they are what inspired my post today.

Just a few of the lovely ladies in my life<3

Here are some of the BEST FRIEND songs ever written in my opinion. They're great so take a listen and call up your friends just to say hey today :)

Get By With a Little Help From My Friends - The Beatles:

Thank You For Being a Friend - also who doesn't love the Golden Girls!?!?!

I'll Be There For You - The Rembrandts thank goodness for the show friends

You've Got a Friend In Me - Randy Newman - Oh Toy Story you taught us well.

You're My Best Friend - Queen

Can Katy Do 6?

Katy Perry has released her new single, The One that Got Away, off of the uh-mazing album, Teenage Dream. Perry has tied MJ's record of having 5 singles reach number one on the billboard charts off of one album - the question now is:

Can Katy Do 6?

I personally enjoy this new single and I hope that Katy Perry does reach 6. Whether you're into pop music or not, and whether you think she's kinda weird (which i kinda love) or not, you can't deny that the chick has talent plus she's incredibly gorgeous. Plus whoever manages her is pretty genius in the way her career has been handled to date. Check out the new vid let me know your thoughts...

Nick Cannon.... You're an Idiot

As if enough people cannot come up with reasons to make fun of Nick Cannon. You know the whole - he's not really a rapper, hosts lame tv shows and married Mariah Carey - deal. But no he insists on giving people reasons like they're candy.

Case In Point - the name of his new single is (drum roll here):

NOBODY LOVES ME

no kidding Nick Cannon, no kidding...

The Good, The Bad & Asbury

Just a quick update on the good, the bad and Asbury in the world of music today....

Firstly the good because who doesn't like to start with a smile:

The Walkmen are celebrating their 10 year anniversary by releasing their uh-mazing debut album Everybody Who Pretended to Like Me is Gone, on vinyl for the first time! They have shows scheduled in January also to celebrate but thus far no New York dates (boo) hopefully that changes.

Now the bad.... womp....

Adele underwent vocal chord surgery in Boston. According to the doctors all is semi-well and recovery looks like it's going to take about 2 months. Ugh get well soon Adele, we miss you!

And finally ASBURY...

That's right Asbury Park, for those of you not from NJ, or have never seen the amazing acts that play in this town well you're missing out (those acts including the one and only Bruce Springsteen, the Gaslight Anthem and so on and so forth). Asbury Park is also where Bamboozle kicked off in NJ. I used to attend this festival when it was fondly known as Skate and Surf but I digress. Bamboozle was moved to Giant Stadium in 06, which well is lacking thet festival charm if you know what I mean. BUT never fear because it seems for the 10 year anniversary Bamboozle is making it''s way back to Asbury Park. Who's excited - THIS GIRL IS.

Why is Adam Levine so Damn Sexy?

Seriously Adam Levine. Please answer my question?! The tattoos , dance moves, tight jeans, snug tee's - Oh and the fact that when he sings I get chills well.... I just can't get enough.

Maroon 5 lead by Adam Levine performed on SNL this past weekend, and he looked DAMN GOOD doing it....

JUST SERIOUSLY... SERIOUSLY

It's Monday - Jam Out

I know Mondays are hard for all of us. If you love Monday's then please refrain from sharing and or reading the rest of this. ANYWAY - It's hard to get back into the swing of the work week when you've been in chill out mode with your friends all weekend. But don't fret - a Monday Play List is here to save the day. Check it:

The Bravery: An Honest Mistake

Destiny's Child - Survivor... this came on my Pandora this morning and thus HAD to be added to this

Lily Allen: Who'd Have Known

Muse - Feeling Good yes they don't originally sing this, yes it's still awesome

Maroon 5 - Moves like Jagger yeah its back don't hate

I'm sure I could go on and on and on per usual, but that's it for now. What do you think are some awesome Monday "This Song with make me feel better" Jams?

One of the Best of the Year: Florence & The Machine's, Ceremonials

Florence and the Machine's second effort, Ceremonials, will be praised as one of the best albums of the year. Yes you heard it here, without a doubt, this album will be receiving critical acclaim. While her first album, Lungs, catapulted Florence and the Machine into the spotlight, this sophomore follow up will shoot her into stardom as an incredible force to be reckoned with.

The instrumentals on Ceremonials are simply incredible with impeccable flow and rhythm that unveil a story as each song plays on. The album is full of heartbreaking strings, gorgeously played piano and a perfectly placed gong (how many times am I going to be able to say that?). Florence Welch's incredible voice is what carries this release however. Her melodious notes fill the room with flawless control and poise. As if she was singing from a mountain top her voice fills every crevasse of a room when you play this album. If you thought she could carry a tune on Lungs, well let's just say that was clearly a warm up for what was to come.

Shake it Out will most likely prove to be the best selling single off of this album, however I don't believe it is the best song on Ceremonials, but hey it has a lot of competition. Each song as something to offer its listeners. Only if for a Night is what sold me, this track kicks off Ceremonials on a very high note. It's a song that gets under your skin, the lyrics:
Only if for a night.
And the only solution was to sacrifice,
And my body was loosened,
I almost saved your life,
But you came over me like some holy life,
And I know the whole story,
You're the only light.
Only if for a night.

Well I mean how could they not get under your skin. It's stories like this that keep you moving onto the next incredible track. Lover to Lover,  is another tune that you can't get enough of. The high notes that she can hit on this are incredible. The drums, the rattling of the tambourine, her range. This song is one that will get your feet tapping even if the message is a little less than optimistic, singing: "There's no salvation for me now." Another incredible hit is No Light, No Light. Again she hits every note perfectly and sings to you exactly what you want to hear. I could go on and on and on.

There is no way that this will not be one of the best albums released this year. To check it out yourself you can listen to it in full here: Ceremonials.

Let me know what you think.!?

1st Graders Cover the Foo Fighters - & They're Awesome

SO while on one of my favorite sites Stumble Upon I stumbled (for lack of a better word) across this little diddy...

TWO FIRST GRADERS COVERING EVERLONG. AND THEY'RE AWESOME.

To quote my friend Veronica - this Video is simply AMAZEBALLS. David Grohl would be proud.

Mash Up - Dubstep & Rock

So we all know, or atleast you should, that dubstep beats have BLOW THE EFF UP this past year. I don't know if I would call it mainstream yet but it's definitely on it's way. Some say the founder of this movement in the U.S. is Skrillex, the ex-front man of From First to Last. He started DJ'ing in LA (clearly where else would such a movement start), and from there it took off.

Skrillex

Since signing with Deadmau5's label Big Beat Skrillex has released 2 LPs, and sent many a beat out into the world. So what's next? Apparently helping produce Korn's next album. Yup you read that right KORN. You know the crazy heavy rock band, mmhmmm. Lead singer, Jonathan Davis, has proclaimed that he "isn't a fan of the current rock scene," and "Rock has been so fucking lame lately." To be honest I see where he's going with that, but to head over to the world of electronics... I don't know if I or the world is ready for this.

Korn's Jonathan David

Skrillex is not the only electronic/dubstep producer on the upcoming album, The Path of Totality he is just one of several. The record drops on December 6th, so until then lets all wait with bated breath shall we to see if this is a disaster or a beautiful mash up in the making.

GLEE is Back - With Some Magical Flare

So everyone, I know I'm not the only Gleek out there, but I must say out of everyone I know I really think I LOVE GLEE the MOST. Yup that's right I said it. I have missed it terribly the past 3 weeks or so, but last night it made it came back better than ever and even debuted a new Cutieeee Pieee star.

Damian McGinty as Rory

The Glee Project winner, Damian McGinty, made his debut performance last night on Glee as exchange student from Ireland Rory Flanagan. Rory's character is staying at Brittney's house, who of course he is now in love with. Thankfully Brittney thinks he is actually a leprauchan from Ireland and will give him her "Pot of Gold" if he grants her 3 wishes... just please picture how that panned out. Rory is also the new target of bullying at McKinley High (Boo) prompting the song, It's Not Easy Being Green (Yey). Yup that's right - IT'S NOT EASY BEING GREEN. If you don't love that, well you have no soul. He closed the show singing Take Care of Yourself by Teddy Thompson. I admit I was not familiar with the song (I know yikes/shocking/so-on-so-forth) but I am definitely a fan of it now! This little cutie pie is definitely going to shine on this show with his oh so magical ways.

Other songs/highlights of the show included:
Blaine singing T.G.I.F by Katy Perry
Puck serenading his daughter with I've Been Waiting for a Girl Like You (can you say swoon).
The Fierce Threesome, Mercedes, Brittney and Santana baning out a great rendition of Candy Man.

So Glee Fans that's it - it's back with some magical talent and great songs. CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE!
